The 2019 Third Street Songwriters Festival Music Industry Panel will be held at Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar from 9:30AM – NOON on Saturday, April 6th and is FREE to all. Our Baton Rouge NSAI chapter coordinator will moderate the panel. Panel members include Richard Orga and Jim McCormick with others TBA. The panel will answer music industry questions from the participants and then there will be a listening panel where the attendees may have an original song critiqued from a commercial standpoint as long as time permits. For this portion, you may either perform your song live or have your recorded version played (please have it loaded on your phone or device so that it may be connected to the soundboard to play).

Richard Orga –
Richard owned and operated one of the most successful country CO-venture publishing companies at Warner Chappell. He is a Grammy Award winning publisher ( It’s Five O’clock Somewhere) and ACM Song of the Year (I’m Movin’ On”). In 1994 Richard met Tim Wipperman (Warner Chappell) and opened Richard and Kastle publishing a Warner Chappell CO-venture. He later merged his publishing into Alexhan Music and R. Joseph Publishing. The CO-venture between Richard and Warner Chappell continues to make money today; together they have enjoyed incredible successes. In 2010 Richard became the CEO of Black Ink Publishing, where for the next four years they had over twenty songs recorded.
2017 – Brokered the sale of Three (3) music catalogs including Matt Jenkins and Extreme Music.
2016 – President of Song Pharmacy Publishing and CEO of I-Prop Management.
2015 – Music Supervisor “Breaking The Bank” Starring Kelsey Grammer.
2014 – “Wake Up Loving You” Craig Morgan
2013 – New release by Love and Theft “Running Out Of Air”.
2012 – #1 hit song “Put Me In The Ground” by The Band Perry. (Over 1,000,000 Singles Sold)
2011 – Chris Young top 20 song “Neon” (500,000 Albums Sold)
2010 – Reba “The Day She Got Divorced”
2007 – Two Reba cuts on the New duets album “Everyday People” (Reba and Carole King) and “Sleeping with the Telephone” (Reba and Faith Hill) over one million albums sold.
2006 – The Two week number 1 “Leave the Pieces” by the Wreckers, over one million albums sold.
2005 – Cuts on Jason Aldean’s Platinum album (She Loves Me), cut on Rick Skaggs and Randy Travis albums.
2004 – R. Joseph received a Grammy award for “its Five O’clock Somewhere, the eight week #1 smash hit. This song also, received the ACM Single of the Year award.
2003 – R. Joseph Publishing received the ACM Song of the Year and the NSAI song of the year award for “I’m Movin’ On, launching the career of Rascal Flatts. 99.9% sure performed by Brian McComas reached #6 on R&R.
2002 – Jon Allen and D. Vincent Williams, both R. Joseph Publishing writers, penned Oklahoma for Billy Gilman, which sold over 2 million albums.
Richard owned and operated R. Joseph Menswear, a successful upscale men’s retail store for 16 years. He had two locations one in Nashville, Tennessee and the other in Gustavia, St Barths. He sold the store in 2003 to devote full time attention to music publishing and management. He managed five employees, while buying all the merchandise in New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
Today, Richard is the President of Song Pharmacy a co-venture of Rezinant Music and CEO of I-Prop Management, which sells, and brokers music catalogs and negotiates publishing deals for writers. This year I-Prop Management will begin recovering publishing for writers who had songs written in 1978 to 1986. In 2015 Richard was the music supervisor for “Breaking The Bank” premièring May 2015 at the Cannes Film Festival. He has been chosen to be the Music Supervisor for the upcoming film “Heartstrings” and “Operation Phoenix” in spring of 2018.
Richard served in the U.S. Army where he received two Distinguished Service Medals and was honorably discharged. He is married to his wife Jan, of 34 years and has two children Meghan (32) and Alex (28). He lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jim McCormick –
Jim McCormick is a staff songwriter at BMG Music in Nashville. McCormick has celebrated two #1 songs on the Billboard country charts: Jason Aldean’s “Take A Little Ride”, which spent 3 weeks in the top position, and Brantley Gilbert’s “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do”. Current releases written by McCormick include Luke Bryan’s “All My Dreaming There”, Jason Aldean’s Lights Go Out, Harry Connick Jr’s “I Do Like We Do”, Jon Pardi’s “Lucky Tonight”, and Trace Adkins’s “Jesus and Jones”. His songs also have been recorded by Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood, Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Jamey Johnson, Smash Mouth, and many others.
He has served as a board of governors’ vice-president for the Recording Academy and on the board of the Nashville Songwriters Association International. McCormick is an adjunct faculty member in the Music Industry Studies program at Loyola University in New Orleans and has lectured on the craft and business of songwriting at Berkelee College of Music, Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, and Tulane University, as well as at GrammyPro and NSAI events. He is a member of Nashville’s Leadership Music class of 2013 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Georgetown University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from the University of New Orleans.
